♔ Jesus of Nazareth ✝ Part 1 ✝ Robert Powell ✦

When aired every Easter and every Christmas, I find myself enthralled yet again with the movie, JESUS OF NAZARETH, in which Robert Powell portrays Jesus. This mini-series has been around for 36 years, but it never fails to totally captivate and spellbind, regardless of how many times I have seen it before. I must confess, though, I rarely sit through the torture and crucifixion of Jesus in any of these movies.

IMHO, Robert Powell’s portrayal of Jesus Christ is by far, without question, the most superb and exudes what I personally perceive to be the true essence of Jesus. Mr. Powell’s depiction of Jesus projects an aura of Divine Presence and is an extraordinary performance which remains unrivaled to this day. There are now scores of movies on the life of Jesus, and still more are planned; but as yet, no performance has been as moving to me as that of Robert Powell’s. Although JESUS OF NAZARETH featured many renowned actors and actresses, without the talents of Mr. Powell and those intense, soul-piercing blue eyes, it would have been just another in the long line of movies about Jesus.

I have assembled just a sampling of some epiphanic, life-altering scenes from Sir Lew Grade’s infamous mini-series, JESUS OF NAZARETH.

My deep appreciation to all whom contributed to the creation of this unforgettable, incomparable, filmic masterpiece:
